Classes at kalāgr̥hm

Taught the way it was taught to us

Small groups. Individual correction. A syllabus that leads somewhere: from your first class to the Karnataka board's highest examinations, and onto the stage.

Programme 01

Bharatanatyam

Taught by founder Mrudula Ravi, Vidwat-certified dancer and choreographer.

Bharatanatyam rewards patience like few other arts. Our training moves deliberately: the body is prepared before the repertoire, the repertoire before the stage. Students who stay the course arrive at the Vidwat examination with technique that will not desert them under pressure, and with something harder to examine: taste.

    Foundations

Posture, araimandi, and the adavu families: the grammar every dancer stands on, taught slowly and corrected individually.

  2. 02

    Repertoire

Alarippu to varnam: students assemble a margam piece by piece, and abhinaya enters the training alongside technique.

  3. 03

    Examinations

Structured preparation for the Karnataka board’s Junior and Senior grade examinations, with mock evaluations at the institute.

  4. 04

    Vidwat & the stage

Advanced students work toward the Vidwat proficiency examination and are prepared for full-length public performance.

Programme 02

Carnatic Classical Music

Led by vocalist Nikita Bharadwaj.

Her classes begin where all good Carnatic training begins, with the voice itself: shruti, breath, and the discipline of daily practice. Students learn not merely to sing compositions but to hear the raga and tala thinking inside them. Her patience makes the tradition welcoming to children and adults alike; her standards keep it honest.

    Voice culture

Shruti alignment, breath and tone: sarali varisai and janta varisai as daily discipline, not a formality.

  2. 02

    Alankaras & geethams

The seven talas enter the body; simple compositions teach students to carry raga and rhythm together.

  3. 03

    Varnams

The gateway to serious repertoire, demanding stamina, precision and musical imagination in equal measure.

  4. 04

    Kritis & manodharma

The great compositions of the trinity and beyond, with the first steps into improvisation for senior students.

The kalāgr̥hm way

What every student can expect

Small classes

Every student is seen, every posture corrected. Nobody learns from the back row here, because there isn't one.

A real syllabus

Training maps to the Karnataka board's examinations (Junior, Senior, Vidwat), so progress is measured, not guessed.

The stage, early

Performance is part of the education. Students present work at institute events long before their arangetram.

All ages

Children begin as young as their attention allows; adults are genuinely welcome, not merely tolerated.

Timings & admissions

Batches run through the week at our Rajarajeshwari Nagar premises. Because groups are kept small, seats open in cycles. Write to us and we will find the batch that fits your age, level and schedule.
